Hastings Secondary College student Sam Haris will represent the College as a member of the YMCA Youth Parliament.
YMCA Youth Parliament nurtures the potential of young people to lead, learn and connect to their community and be advocates for causes about which they are passionate. The program empowers young people with opportunities to voice their ideas, passions, and experiences in a parliamentary format to propose a positive change for their futures. The YMCA Youth Parliament initiative also provides opportunities for young people who wouldn’t normally get the platform to participate in a leadership program.
Youth Parliament is run by young people, for young people with leadership training and industry mentoring provided.
Training camps take place during July where students will determine the bills and resolutions they will put to parliament.
In September Sam will be presenting bills at Parliament House with members of parliament assisting. Sam will have the opportunity to create solutions to the problems facing NSW in the area of Environment and Heritage and debate those ideas in NSW Parliament House in front of MPs.
Well done Sam, and we look forward to catching up with your blog while you are at training camp.
