Principals Message - Westport Campus

Welcome to Term 4 and congratulations to Ms Speers, Mr Schmitzer and Ms Standford for their recognition at the World Teachers celebration held last Friday. These teachers are amongst the outstanding educators who make positive impacts on students lives every day.

When addressing the student body last week I suggested to them that Term 4 is an ideal opportunity to plan for 2019.

Term 4 also marks the beginning of the Year 12 year. Students are keenly waiting on their Year 11 Academic Reports, which will give them good feedback in their courses, where they have excelled and areas that need improvement.

Students have been involved in a number of off-campus activities this term, starting with our Cattle Team representing us at the Scone Show last week. A big reminder that Sasha Davies (Year 9), successfully gained a placement in the State Drama Festival which took place last week. A further twelve Drama students and two Dance students have also been selected to perform in this year’s School Spectacular. This event will be performed in Sydney in November. Fantastic stuff!

Next year we are planning to enhance our college communication processes. One aspect of this will be exploring and trialling further functionality of the Parent Portal. I am also looking for feedback on communication processes from our school community. Please contact me if you would like to contribute.

Kylee Owen, our college Deputy Principal, has been successful in gaining the position of College Principal at Callaghan College in Newcastle. I would like to pass on our gratitude for the fantastic service that she has given to Hastings Secondary College whilst she has been with us and wish her all the best for her future.

Safe on Social Parent sessions were held within the Hastings Valley Community of Schools. This focussed on being safe on social media. The feedback from the sessions was excellent which provided a lot of information and strategies, for both parents and students, around protecting themselves with social media issues. Quick User Guides on being Safe on Social can be found on our website.

Warm regards,
