On 26 September students from Hastings Secondary College participated in the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie annual Public Speaking Competition.
This competition is for senior speakers, and Bonnie Rudd and Charlie Martin represented Hastings Secondary College.
Bonnie spoke about Equality and Charlie's speech was on Male Activism.
Speeches can be on a subject of students choice but must relate in some way to the Rotary four-way test.
The four-way test is the cornerstone of Rotary – if you like, it’s the ethics of Rotary and therefore of every Rotarian.
"Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Charlie's speech was the winning performance on the night after a very tight three-cornered contest with students from across the Hastings.
The Adjudicators who were from Port Macquarie Toastmasters agreed the marking was exceptionally close and was arrived at after long deliberation.
Congratulations once again to Charlie and Bonnie.
